That’s a BUMMER, especially from a jobs point. Plus the place was a draw that helped other business in the area. Hope they find a buyer to reopen it.

I never stayed at the place, but I never went to ABSP to be pampered, (maybe I just to cheap  ) but have stayed in local motels many times.

Thanks for the heads-up even if it’s bad news.

When they re-opened under the "Borrego Ranch Resort" name they closed everything to Borrego residents, so we couldn't eat in the restaurants, drink in the bar or shop there. They would allow it if you paid their exorbitant membership fees. They also laid off most of the La Casa Employees and brought in their own. One Borrego resident that worked there said she felt like an outsider. The owners also want to turn Borrego into another Palm Springs! Maybe someone will buy it that will make it Borrego friendly again. I know a lot of residents would go there for dinner, etc., especially in the summer when they could use the business.

Thanks Linda, I didn’t know that. Any local rumors about a reopening?

A while back when I heard the latest outfit had bought the place, and heard what they paid and then spent to refurbish the place, I wondered how that they could recoup all that money. I guess they didn’t worry about recouping the money?

IIRC, the thing that I read several years ago was about a big time real estate investor (read big talking scam artist) from San Fernando Valley, or farther west, taking it ove.
Fear was that then he would gobble up the rest of the town - guess that fear has been put to rest.

Other note:
We have been staying at the Palm Canyon Resort on our twice a year trips for a number of years.
However, we finally got tired of the non-maintenance and tried the Borrego Springs Resort this last Thanksgiving weekend.
We really liked it and wil go there again.
I thought it would be a little tougher getting back without our vehicles from Carlee's Sat night,
but they came in a van to pick us up. :D

Linda, say "Hi" to Andy for me ("Cowboy" will do).
He knows me and my family.

OK, and now I have a rude awakening about the Borrego Springs Resort,
we stayed there for the first time last fall for Fri & Sat after Thanksgiving for the first time.

We had been staying for our twice annual trip at the Palm Canyon Resort for many years.
But it was getting tacky and they were not maintaining it so we decided to switch last fall.

Now, I just looked at reservations for coming back in a couple of weeks,
and Borrego Springs is like through the roof now...$430 for the two nights.
I'm not exact, but it seemed a lot cheaper last fall, maybe $100 less.

So then a call to Palm Canyon Resort, now Borrego Canyon Lodge :o ,
and I have Fri & Sat the second weekend at $260!
No way $170 more, or $85 per night, for Borrego Springs Resort.

Perhaps the reason is now that the La Casa Del Zorro is shut, all the high enders are going to the Borrego Springs Resort.
And, consequently, they can raise their rates accordingly?

Sheesh!

Borrego Linda?

Anybody?

First I've heard about it, but haven't checked prices lately. I do know everything was pretty full recently. guess it's the ole supply & demand!

Wow :o . What do you get besides a room for that kinda money? Good to hear some people still have some extra spending money. I wonder how much of the demand is wild flowers?

A few weeks back the wife and I hoped in the 4X drove out about 5-6 miles east of Texas Dip, set out the camp chair and just sat and watched the stars come out. Next morning did a little hiking up a wash, then packed up camp and headed home with a few bags of Grapefruit, oh-yeah we eat dinner at Kendall’s the night before. I missed eating ‘camp food’ but it was just a 'short trip' of a relaxing nights sleep in the desert. We did see lots of flower-lookers along the paved roads.

We come down twice a year and now thinking of our fall trip, this month or next.
I understand that Carlee's Place has a new owner and that the employees are fine with that owner.
Anybody know who that might be?
Just curious, we'll be there for dinner that Sat. night, regardless. :)

His name is Andy and he's been tending bar there for a long time. We've eaten there 3 times since he bought it and you can't tell the difference! The food is still really good, and the service is as friendly as ever!
