The hiking shots are from Painted Canyon above Mecca, which is southwest of Palm Springs. 
The canyon hike is beautiful with hight ajustment via ladders. The BLM has recently updated the ladders making the climbing much safer.

SueNo, I have not seen the Mecca painted canyon. Is it close to Joshua Tree? It sounds great.
I don't think too many people are looking at this site. I don't see much activity.
