That is the discovery marker for one of my mining claims. The little oblong/oval thing is the bottom of a Prince Albert can. It holds the discovery notice, or a copy there of, that dates that the assesment work was done and who preformed it. It has to be updated each year befor the end of the assesment year. Anyone who is prospecting can see if the claim is active and a general discription of how the claim lays on the ground. Take or distroy that paper work and you will chap the hide of any miner out there.
